They sent fans into a frenzy by revealing that they would be heading back on tour.
But Girls Aloud were quick to see the funny side of their repeated insistence that they would never get back together, with a hilarious Instagram clip on Monday.
The group - Cheryl, Kimberley Walsh, Nadine Coyle and Nicola Roberts - re-enacted a viral meme from the 2019 Golden Globe Awards, when Lady Gaga was shown how her red carpet gown eerily resembled a look by Judy Garland in Star Is Born.
The post was captioned with a prior quote from Cheryl, who said: 'There'll be no reunion though.'
She then mimed the words: 'Oh look... you know what? I don't... I... we didn't say that, no, but it looks an awful lot like that doesn't it?' while her bandmates awkwardly glanced around.

The post was captioned: 'So... yeah, anyway... See you at #TheGirlsAloudShow next month.'
Cheryl had first ruled out the prospect of a Girls Aloud reunion while the group were still together, and uttered the quote in their Off The Record docuseries in 2006.
She said: ''There'll be no reunions, can you imagine 30 odd year old singing I'm just a Love Machine?'
Girls Aloud are set to kick off their reunion tour next month, after confirming rumours that they would be getting back together last year, marking 21 years since their formation.
The show will reportedly feature nods to their iconic looks including the red sequinned gowns and Jean Paul Gaultier bustier ensembles from their 2013 greatest hits show Ten: The Hits Tour - their sixth tour.
Sources told The Sun: 'This tour is a celebration of Girls Aloud's music and a tribute to late bandmate Sarah Harding, so it will be packed with nostalgia...
'They have been taking trips down memory lane by looking at pictures from their old tours and they are using their outfits from back then as inspiration...
'Some of the old looks were really sexy, including their Gaultier-inspired corset dresses and the bright red sequinned gowns...

'They want to make sure there are nods to these. It's been so exciting for them to start putting the finishing touches on the tour and see it all come together.'
In announcing the tour in November, the foursome revealed the group have not recorded new music but just want to celebrate their back catalogue.
Cheryl revealed they had been discussing the plans for some time but put the idea on ice when Sarah Harding - who died in September 2021 - was diagnosed with cancer.
She said in a statement: 'We all started talking about the possibility of doing something to celebrate Girls Aloud's 20-year anniversary a few years ago. The anniversary seemed like an obvious thing that we would celebrate.
'But when Sarah fell ill all priorities changed. She passed away a year before the anniversary and it just didn't feel right, it felt too soon.'
The group plan to use the tour to 'celebrate' their late friend.
